Incidental detection of S. pyogenes-DNA in psoriatic skin by PCR.Weisenseel P, Prinz JC Department for Dermatology, Ludwig Maximilians-University, Frauenlobstr. 9-11, 80337, Munich, Germany. peter.weisenseel@derma.med.uni-muenchen.de Psoriasis vulgaris is a T cell-mediated autoimmune skin disease. First disease onset and disease worsening are often triggered by tonsillar infection with Streptococcus pyogenes. Here we demonstrate the incidental detection of S. pyogenes DNA in samples of different biological origin from patients with chronic plaque-type psoriasis by PCR. These findings may support the model of molecular mimicry in psoriasis pathogenesis. Published 3 June 2005 in Arch Dermatol Res, 296(12): 573-6.
